Sedation stacking is the core danger with alprazolam (Xanax), a benzodiazepine for anxiety and panic, and this list deserves genuine care rather than a quick skim. Dozens of entries, alcohol chief among them, deepen its drowsiness and can slow breathing, while an even larger group changes how the body clears the drug through the CYP3A4 enzyme. Grapefruit pushes alprazolam levels up, and St. John's wort cuts its half-life roughly in half, which can leave the medication doing far less than prescribed.

A smaller cluster simply blocks absorption, so charcoal-type and thick fiber products should be spaced well apart from a dose.
