Alprazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Vitamin E interacts with.

Theoretically, vitamin E might induce metabolism of CYP3A4, possibly reducing the levels CYP3A4 substrates.
Vitamin E appears to bind with the nuclear receptor, pregnane X receptor (PXR), which results in increased expression of CYP3A4. Although the clinical significance of this is not known, use caution when considering concomitant use of vitamin E and other drugs affected by these enzymes.

Your body clears alprazolam (Xanax) using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The idea here is that vitamin E might gently nudge that enzyme to work a little faster. If that happens, your system could break down Xanax a bit more quickly, which in theory might make it slightly less effective at calming anxiety or panic.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. It's based on lab reasoning, not real-world cases, so we don't have proof it actually causes problems in people. Everyday vitamin E from food is no concern at all. If you take high-dose vitamin E supplements and notice your Xanax isn't working like it used to, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor rather than changing anything yourself.

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
