Here's the simple version: Xanax (alprazolam) already slows down activity in your brain to calm anxiety, and catnip is thought to have mild calming, sleepy effects of its own. Put the two together and those effects can stack up. In real life that might look like more drowsiness, feeling foggy or dizzy, slower reactions, or being extra sleepy.

I want to be honest about how strong this concern is. The evidence here is pretty thin, mostly anecdotal and animal studies, so a cup of catnip tea may not do much for most people. Still, with a medication like alprazolam, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially before driving or if you feel unusually groggy.

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
