Here's the gist for Xanax (alprazolam) and shepherd's purse. Alprazolam already calms brain activity, which is how it eases anxiety and panic, but that same action can leave you drowsy, foggy, or unsteady. Shepherd's purse has been reported in some traditional and animal sources to have a mild sedative or relaxing effect. So in theory, pairing the two could stack on top of each other and make you feel sleepier or more lightheaded than usual.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb might behave, not on solid human studies. There's no strong evidence it changes how your body breaks down alprazolam. Still, if you notice extra drowsiness, slowed thinking, or poor coordination, that's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
