Here's the thing to know about pairing shepherd's purse with diphenhydramine (Benadryl): this drug already makes a lot of people drowsy. That's actually why some folks take it as a sleep aid. Shepherd's purse has a traditional reputation for having a mild calming or sedating quality, so the worry is simply an additive one, meaning the two together could leave you more tired, groggy, dizzy, or foggy-headed than either alone.

Diphenhydramine temporarily relieves symptoms of hay fever, other upper respiratory allergies, and the common cold — including runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

After Bite Xtra gel is formulated for topical use and is approved to temporarily relieve pain and itching from minor burns, minor cuts and scrapes, insect bites, minor skin irritations, and rashes from poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac.
