Here's what's going on with shepherd's purse and propoxyphene. Propoxyphene is an opioid pain reliever, so on its own it can make you drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or slow your breathing. The concern on file is that shepherd's purse may have its own mild calming (sedative) effects, so combining the two could, in theory, add up and leave you more sleepy or unsteady than expected.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves in lab and animal studies, not a proven, well-documented reaction in people. Still, since propoxyphene already affects alertness and breathing, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them. Don't change your medicine on your own.

This three-ingredient combination — butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine — is used to relieve the symptoms of tension headache (also called muscle contraction headache). All supported products, including tablets, capsules, and oral solution, share this same approved use.

It is worth knowing that evidence for using this combination to treat repeated, frequent tension headaches over time is limited. Because butalbital can be habit-forming, extended or repeated use is not recommended.
