Here's the gist with Shepherd's Purse and doxepin (Silenor): doxepin already has a calming, sleepy effect, which is exactly why it's used for insomnia. Some traditional reports suggest shepherd's purse may have its own mild sedative-type activity, so taking the two together could, in theory, add up and leave you feeling more drowsy, groggy, dizzy, or foggy-headed the next morning.

I want to be honest about how soft this concern is. It's based on how these substances might behave in the body, not on real human studies, so it's more of a heads-up than an alarm. If you do use both, just watch for extra grogginess and don't drive until you know how you feel. And please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
