Here's the simple version: Alprazolam (Xanax) already calms the brain to ease anxiety, and it can leave you feeling drowsy, foggy, or slowed down. Rauvolfia vomitoria appears to have its own sedative effect, at least in animal studies, so pairing the two could pile that drowsiness on top of each other. The worry is feeling extra sleepy, dizzy, or mentally slow, which can affect driving and balance.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's theoretical, based on how the plant behaves in animals, not proven in people, so it's a caution rather than a red alert. Still, this herb is potent and not a casual supplement. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
