Yohimbine, a constituent of Rauvolfia vomitoria, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking Rauvolfia vomitoria with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.

Here's the concern with pairing this herb and Vyvanse. Lisdexamfetamine is a stimulant that raises levels of norepinephrine and dopamine, which can speed up your heart and nudge your blood pressure higher. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains yohimbine-like compounds that can also stimulate the body and push blood pressure up. Stack the two together and those effects could pile on top of each other.

In real life that might mean a racing or pounding heart, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or feeling anxious and wired. I'll be honest though: this is a theoretical warning based on how the compounds work, not on solid human studies. Even so, both can affect your heart and pressure, so please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Here's the gist for Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help process this stimulant. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a little yohimbine, and in lab studies yohimbine appears to slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let amphetamine linger a bit longer in your system, nudging up its effects and the usual stimulant side effects like a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or reduced appetite.

I want to be honest though: this is only a test-tube finding, not something proven in real people, so the real-world risk may be small. There's a bigger picture too, since this plant can strongly affect blood pressure and mood on its own. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Lisdexamfetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults and children age 6 and older. It is also approved to treat moderate to severe binge eating disorder (BED) in adults.

It is not approved or recommended for weight loss, and its safety and effectiveness for treating obesity have not been established. It is not recommended in children under 6 years old.
