ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Warfarin Sodium
Warfarin Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of yohimbine. Research in healthy adults shows that taking yohimbine in doses of 8 mg or more seems to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro by binding to the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. The effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria itself are unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for warfarin: this is mostly a theory based on how the plant might behave, not something proven in real patients. Rauvolfia vomitoria carries small amounts of yohimbine, and in lab studies yohimbine made platelets a little less sticky. Since warfarin already thins your blood by slowing down clotting, stacking the two could in theory add up and tip you toward more bleeding.
With warfarin, that might look like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or blood in the urine or stool. Warfarin is a narrow-window drug, so even small shifts matter and your INR can move. The actual effect of this plant is unclear, so please don't start it without checking with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Rauvolfia Vomitoria
What is Rauvolfia Vomitoria?
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety and agitation
- Sleep problems
- Mental health symptoms (traditional use)
- Fever and general ailments
Rauvolfia vomitoria is an African shrub whose root contains powerful alkaloids, including reserpine, that have historically been used for high blood pressure and agitation. Because these compounds can strongly affect blood pressure, mood, and the nervous system, the plant can cause serious side effects and is not a casual supplement. Always talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using it.
About Warfarin
What Is Warfarin Used For?
Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin
Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.
In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
