Why this applies to Trimipramine

Trimipramine falls under TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs) — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might alter the effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria and increase the risk for adverse effects.
A small clinical study in patients taking TCAs for at least 4 weeks shows that receiving doses of intravenous yohimbine, a constituent of Rauvolfia vomitoria, 2.5-20 mg daily for up to 7 days precipitates severe anxiety, agitation, and tremor. Also, concomitant use of TCAs with Rauvolfia vomitoria may decrease the effects of rauwolfia alkaloids.

Here's the thing to know if you're thinking about Rauvolfia vomitoria while taking trimipramine (Surmontil). This plant carries some potent alkaloids, including yohimbine and reserpine. The yohimbine piece is what raises a flag: in a small study, people already on tricyclic antidepressants who got yohimbine ran into severe anxiety, agitation, and tremor. Tricyclics like trimipramine can amplify that kind of reaction.

On the flip side, taking it together may also blunt the blood-pressure-lowering action of the reserpine part. So you could get more jitters and shakiness while the plant works less well. This is mostly theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than large trials, but the signal is real enough that I'd run it past your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
