Here's the gist: Rauvolfia vomitoria contains reserpine, which dampens brain messengers like dopamine, while Aripiprazole (Abilify) also works on dopamine. Putting them together can stack their effects on the nervous system. So in theory you might see stronger drowsiness, low blood pressure, dizziness or lightheadedness when standing, slowed movements, or other unwanted reactions. Aripiprazole is not a prodrug, so this isn't about one activating the other. It's more that both pull in a similar direction and the combined load could be too much.

This caution is based on how these compounds behave (pharmacology), not on hard human studies, so it stays theoretical. Still, the potential is serious enough that I'd loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them, rather than trying this on your own.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear aripiprazole. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a bit of yohimbine, and in lab (test tube) studies yohimbine can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, aripiprazole could build up a little higher than usual, which might mean more of its typical side effects, things like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or unwanted movements.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical and based only on lab data, not on people, so it may not amount to much.
