Alprazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Xanax (alprazolam). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this medication out of your body. Lab studies hint that devil's claw might slow that enzyme down. If that happened in a real person, alprazolam could hang around longer than usual, which in theory means more drowsiness, dizziness, foggy thinking, or trouble with coordination.

The important part: this is only test-tube evidence, and it has not been seen in actual people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you already feel groggy on your current dose.

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
