Fidaxomicin falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw inhibits P-glycoprotein, which transports many drugs out of cells. This might increase intracellular levels of P-glycoprotein substrates, although it is unclear if this effect would be clinically important.

Here's the good news about this pairing: it's a very small concern, and mostly a theoretical one. Fidaxomicin (Dificid) is moved around by a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein, and lab studies hint that devil's claw might slow that pump down. In theory, that could let a bit more fidaxomicin linger in your gut.

Practically speaking, this barely matters. Fidaxomicin stays mostly in your intestines and isn't really absorbed into the bloodstream, which is exactly why it works so well for C. difficile. Even if levels nudged up slightly, you might notice mild things like nausea or stomach upset at most. This is based only on test-tube research, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, mention the devil's claw to your pharmacist or doctor so they have the full picture.

About Fidaxomicin

What Is Fidaxomicin Used For?

Brand name: Dificid

Fidaxomicin treats C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) — a bacterial infection in the gut caused by Clostridioides difficile that leads to significant diarrhea and intestinal inflammation. Fidaxomicin tablets are approved for adult patients. Dificid (as tablets or oral suspension) is approved for both adults and children 6 months of age and older.

Because fidaxomicin works almost entirely inside the gut and is barely absorbed into the bloodstream, it is only effective against C. difficile and should not be used for any other type of infection.
