Demeclocycline falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw inhibits P-glycoprotein, which transports many drugs out of cells. This might increase intracellular levels of P-glycoprotein substrates, although it is unclear if this effect would be clinically important.

Here's the gist if you're pairing devil's claw with demeclocycline. Your body uses a sort of cellular bouncer called P-glycoprotein to push certain drugs back out of cells. In lab dish studies, devil's claw seems to slow that bouncer down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more demeclocycline hang around inside cells, which might nudge up its usual side effects like nausea, an upset stomach, or skin that sunburns more easily.

I want to be honest with you though: this is only test-tube research, and we genuinely don't know if it amounts to anything real in people. Demeclocycline works as-is (it's not a prodrug that needs activating), so the effect would be mild at most. Still, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist before combining them.

About Demeclocycline

What Is Demeclocycline Used For?

Brand name: Declomycin

Demeclocycline Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. These include Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus, Q fever, tick fevers, respiratory tract infections (including those caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae), cholera, plague, tularemia, brucellosis, relapsing fever, chancroid, and sexually transmitted infections such as lymphogranuloma venereum, nongonococcal urethritis, and gonorrhea (when penicillin cannot be used).

It is also used for certain skin and skin structure infections, bartonellosis, granuloma inguinale, actinomycosis, listeriosis, anthrax (when penicillin is contraindicated), and as an adjunct in acute intestinal amebiasis. In severe acne, it may be used as part of combination therapy. It should only be used for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it.
