Devil's Claw and danicopan

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to danicopan

danicopan falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw inhibits P-glycoprotein, which transports many drugs out of cells. This might increase intracellular levels of P-glycoprotein substrates, although it is unclear if this effect would be clinically important.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the situation with danicopan (Voydeya), the medicine you take alongside your PNH treatment. Danicopan is one of many drugs that rely on a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein to help move it in and out of cells. Lab (test-tube) studies hint that devil's claw may slow that pump down a bit, which could theoretically let a little more danicopan hang around inside cells.

The key word here is theoretical. This is based only on lab research, not on people, so we honestly don't know if it would matter in real life. If it did nudge levels up, you might notice more of danicopan's usual effects like headache or nausea. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but do mention the devil's claw to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

“Anyone on danicopan (Voydeya) for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is protecting fragile red blood cells with a pill that also asks a lot of the liver, so I read this list of 89 supplements as one to approach carefully, starting with the five rated major.
