Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Antidiabetes, Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-IV) Inhibitor
Antidiabetes, Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-IV) Inhibitor falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw inhibits P-glycoprotein, which transports many drugs out of cells. This might increase intracellular levels of P-glycoprotein substrates, although it is unclear if this effect would be clinically important.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Glyxambi combines linagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) with empagliflozin. The piece that connects here is that some of this medicine is moved around by a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein. In test-tube studies, devil's claw seems to slow that pump down, which could in theory let a bit more drug linger in your cells. If that happened, you might see slightly stronger blood-sugar-lowering effects.
Honestly, this is a very weak, theoretical concern. It's only been seen in lab work, not in real people, and it's rated minor. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just keep an eye out for low blood sugar signs like shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding devil's claw so they can keep tabs on you.
