Atorvastatin Calcium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body clears atorvastatin (Lipitor) using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some early lab research hints that devil's claw might slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, your atorvastatin levels could creep up, which in theory could raise the odds of statin side effects like muscle aches, soreness, or weakness. In rare cases, very high statin levels can stress the muscles or liver.

The reassuring part is that this is theoretical, coming only from test-tube studies, and hasn't been seen in actual people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor before adding devil's claw. If you do try it and notice new muscle pain, let them know right away.

About Atorvastatin

What Is Atorvastatin Used For?

Brand name: Lipitor

Atorvastatin is used alongside a healthy diet to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, triglycerides (blood fats), and other harmful lipids, while raising HDL ("good") cholesterol. It treats primary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal blood fats), hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides), and inherited conditions such as heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia — including in children aged 10 and older.

Beyond cholesterol control, atorvastatin is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina (chest pain) in adults with coronary heart disease or multiple risk factors for it — including adults with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for heart disease even without a confirmed heart disease diagnosis.
