Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Belladonna, Caffeine, Ergotamine, Pentobarbital
Belladonna, Caffeine, Ergotamine, Pentobarbital falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product (Micomp PB) is often used for tension or migraine-type headaches, and a couple of its ingredients, including the ergotamine, lean on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to be cleared from your body. Devil's claw has shown in test-tube studies that it might slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, these medicines could build up a little more than expected.
The honest part: this is only theoretical right now. It has not been seen in actual people, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, ergotamine is a drug where extra exposure can mean problems like nausea, cold or tingly hands and feet, or stronger headache rebound, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
