Alprazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear alprazolam (Xanax) out of your system. Lab studies suggest chanca piedra may slow that enzyme down. If that holds true in people, your Xanax could hang around longer and build up, which might make its effects stronger than expected.

With alprazolam, that could mean more drowsiness, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling unsteady. I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from test-tube research, and it has not actually been reported in real patients, so it's theoretical at this point. Still, since Xanax already causes sedation, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, rather than changing anything on your own.

What Is Alprazolam Used For?

Brand names: Xanax, Niravam

Alprazolam treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, in adults. These uses are supported across multiple alprazolam products, including tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

Xanax (tablet) is indicated for the acute treatment of GAD and for panic disorder. Xanax XR (extended-release tablet) and alprazolam extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia — not for GAD. Alprazolam orally disintegrating tablets and alprazolam oral solution are indicated for both GAD and panic disorder.
