Bendamustine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, chanca piedra might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract increases CYP1A2 activity. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for bendamustine, the chemo drug you get by IV for CLL or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Part of this medicine is processed by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab studies (just test-tube work, not real people) suggest chanca piedra may speed that enzyme up. In theory, a faster enzyme could clear bendamustine a little quicker and slightly lower its levels, which could mean a bit less cancer-fighting punch.

I want to be honest: this is theoretical and has never actually been seen in patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, with a cancer treatment you don't want anything nudging it off course. Please don't start chanca piedra without first running it by your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Bendamustine Injection Used For?

Brand names: Treanda, Belrapzo, Vivimusta

Bendamustine hydrochloride injection is used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is also used for adults with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) — a slow-growing type of blood cancer — when the disease has continued to progress during or within six months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen.

For CLL, how well bendamustine works compared to other first-line treatments (aside from chlorambucil) has not been fully established.
