Here's the gist: atenolol already works to bring your blood pressure down and slow your heart rate. Chanca piedra might nudge your blood pressure a little lower too, so in theory the two together could add up. If that happened, you might feel the things that come with blood pressure dipping too low, like lightheadedness, tiredness, or feeling dizzy when you stand up.

I want to be honest about how shaky this concern is. It comes from animal studies, and when researchers gave chanca piedra to people with high blood pressure for 10 days, most didn't see a real drop. So this is a theoretical, low-priority interaction, not a red alert. Atenolol isn't a prodrug, so nothing here changes how it's activated. Still, if you start chanca piedra, keep an eye on how you feel and check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Atenolol

What Is Atenolol Used For?

Brand names: Tenormin, Atenix

Atenolol tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina pectoris (chest pain caused by narrowed coronary arteries). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Long-term use helps manage chronic chest pain.

Atenolol is also used in hemodynamically stable patients with a definite or suspected acute heart attack (myocardial infarction) to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death. Treatment is started as soon as the patient's condition allows, typically in a hospital setting.
