Fluvoxamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Zizyphus interacts with.

Theoretically, zizyphus might decrease the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Animal research shows that zizyphus induces CYP1A2 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to break down fluvoxamine and clear it out. Lab and animal studies suggest zizyphus may speed up this enzyme. If that holds true in people, it could clear fluvoxamine a little faster, which in theory might lower its levels and make it work less well. For something you take to keep OCD or social anxiety symptoms in check, weaker control is the main concern here, not extra side effects.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though: this comes only from animal and test-tube research and has never been shown in humans. So this is a theoretical worry, not a proven problem. There's no need to panic, but it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a concentrated zizyphus supplement.

What Is Fluvoxamine Used For?

Brand name: Luvox

Both fluvoxamine maleate tablets and Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — a condition marked by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.

Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are approved for adults and for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17. Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved for adults with OCD; their use in pediatric patients naive to fluvoxamine requires special prescriber consideration regarding the lowest available dose.
