Zolpidem Tartrate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Zizyphus interacts with.

Theoretically, zizyphus might cause additive sedative effects when taken with CNS depressants.
Some animal research has found that various parts of zizyphus have sedative effects. However, other animal research shows that zizyphus plant extract does not alter sleep parameters when used in combination with pentobarbital.

Here's the simple version: zolpidem (Ambien) is already a sleep medicine that calms down brain activity. Zizyphus has long been used as a gentle, relaxing remedy, and some animal studies suggest it may have mild sedative effects of its own. So in theory, pairing the two could stack one calming effect on top of another.

If that happens, you might feel more drowsy than expected, more groggy or unsteady the next morning, or have trouble waking up fully. I'll be honest with you though: this concern is theoretical, based mostly on animal data, and some studies didn't even show an effect. Eating jujube fruit is very unlikely to matter, while concentrated supplements are the bigger question. Before combining a zizyphus supplement with Ambien, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Zolpidem Used For?

Brand name: Ambien

Zolpidem is used short-term for insomnia. Most formulations — including Ambien, oral tablets, and Zolpidem Tartrate Capsules — are approved to help people who have trouble falling asleep at bedtime. Zolpidem Tartrate Capsules are specifically indicated for adults under 65.

The extended-release formulations (including Zolpidem Tartrate Extended-Release Tablets) help with both falling asleep and staying asleep through the night. Sublingual tablets (Edluar, Zolpidem Tartrate Sublingual Tablet, and Zolpidem tartrate sublingual) are taken as needed when you wake up in the middle of the night and cannot get back to sleep — but only if at least 4 hours of sleep time remain before you need to be up.
