What’s inside
Full disclosure
This chewable tablet contains 2 active ingredients: vitamin B12 and folate. B12 is an essential nutrient your body uses to make red blood cells, support nerve function, and keep your DNA healthy.
Folate (also called vitamin B9) works alongside B12 to help your cells divide and function properly. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — sorbitol, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, vegetable stearate, apricot and cherry flavoring, and silica — that give it its form and taste.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 in this product is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic condition that prevents B12 absorption). It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning and possibly effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles).
We don't have effectiveness data for folate in our records.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is generally very well tolerated — your body excretes excess amounts in your urine, so there's no established upper limit for how much you can take. Oral B12 is considered safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended amounts; follow your provider's guidance.
Rarely, people report allergic reactions like rash or itching, and in one case someone with a cobalt allergy had a reaction to methylcobalamin (a form of B12). There's a rare but serious report linking B12 correction of certain anemias to severe low potassium (hypokalemia), though this is not common.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin, there's a Minor interaction to watch for — it can lower your B12 levels, which is why supplementing may actually be helpful. Check all your medications through the search tool on this page to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This supplement is a straightforward way to get B12 and folate, especially if you're deficient or can't absorb them well. If you take metformin for diabetes, this product won't cause a problem, but your doctor may want to monitor your B12 levels anyway.
