Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has three active ingredients. Garcinia mangostana extract (from the mangosteen fruit) and Irvingia gabonensis extract (African mango) are both included for their potential effects on body composition.
Meratrim is a proprietary blend — its specific components aren't listed here, so we can't detail what's in it. The remaining ingredient, Sphaeranthus indicus extract, rounds out the formula.
The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, along with microcrystalline cellulose, silica, and vegetable stearate as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what this product actually does is limited. Garcinia mangostana has possibly effective evidence for periodontitis (gum disease), but for androgenic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss) and Alzheimer's disease, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it.
Irvingia gabonensis similarly shows insufficient evidence for diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, or metabolic syndrome — the studies we hold don't establish it works for those uses. The effectiveness of the other ingredients isn't established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Garcinia mangostana extract is generally well tolerated as a food, but long-term safety of concentrated supplements hasn't been well studied. At doses up to 560 mg daily in studies, some people reported mild tiredness, headache, dizziness, malaise, and various digestive complaints including constipation, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort — though it's unclear whether mangosteen was the cause.
Irvingia gabonensis is generally well tolerated short-term, with the most common side effects being flatulence, headache, insomnia, and nausea. One case of liver inflammation (hepatitis) has been reported after taking Irvingia at 350 mg twice daily, though this is very rare.
The safety notes advise against this product during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with us before taking this if you're on any of the following: blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate risk of bleeding), diabetes medications (Moderate risk of low blood sugar with dose adjustment needed), testosterone products (Moderate additive effects possible), or donepezil for Alzheimer's (Minor risk of increased effects). We have no interaction data for Sphaeranthus indicus extract.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're on blood thinners, diabetes medications, or testosterone therapy, or if you take donepezil, talk to your pharmacist before starting this. The active ingredients haven't been proven to work for weight management or most other uses in our data.
Long-term safety is not well established, and this product should be avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Advanced Anti-Adipocyte by Life Extension Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Life Extension's Advanced Anti-Adipocyte contains three active ingredients, two of which interact with medications.
Garcinia mangostana extract poses a Moderate risk with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — it may theoretically increase bleeding risk. The extract also carries a Minor interaction with donepezil (Aricept), an Alzheimer's medication, because it may boost the drug's effects in the brain.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Irvingia gabonensis extract presents two Moderate interactions. It may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you're taking diabetes medications, so your blood sugar will need close monitoring and your dose might need adjusting.
It also theoretically has additive effects with testosterone products, so if you're on testosterone therapy, caution is advised.
We could not check Sphaeranthus indicus extract — we hold no interaction data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications.
Please check your exact medications with the search tool below before you start.

Garcinia mangostana extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research shows that gamma-mangostin, a constituent of mangosteen, is a potent and competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. Antagonism of the 5-HT2A receptor is believed to reduce platelet aggregation.
Donepezil (Aricept)
Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with donepezil might increase the effects of donepezil.
Animal research shows that concomitant use of an aqueous extract of mangosteen pericarp with donepezil increases brain concentrations of donepezil at 4 hours by 64% without associated effects on systemic exposure.
Integra-Lean African Mango (Irvingia gabonensis) Proprietary extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking Irvingia gabonensis with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia in some patients.
Human research shows that Irvingia gabonensis decreases blood sugar in diabetic patients being treated with antidiabetes agents. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
Testosterone
Theoretically, taking Irvingia gabonensis with testosterone products drugs might cause additive effects in some patients.
Animal research suggests that Irvingia gabonensis increases testosterone levels. The mechanism of action is unclear. Until more is known, advise patients taking testosterone to avoid using or use Irvingia gabonensis cautiously.
