What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 7 active ingredients.
  • “Proprietary Probiotic Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

This Advanced Probiotic has 7 active ingredients—all live, beneficial bacteria strains. The main players are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, both well-studied probiotics meant to support gut health.

You're also getting Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, plus a proprietary blend that ties them together. The capsule also contains inulin (a prebiotic fiber that feeds the good bacteria), vegetable capsule material, magnesium stearate, and silica as inactive ingredients.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Supports immune and digestive health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Bacterial vaginosis, Clostridioides difficile infection, Colic, Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Bifidobacterium Bifidum is rated "Possibly Effective" for Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The two main ingredients we have data for show promise in a few areas. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.

Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. For other claimed uses like allergies, anxiety, or Alzheimer's disease, the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.

The other ingredients in the blend haven't been rated in our system, so we can't speak to what they add.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, the data are limited, and the facts advise checking with your doctor before you start.

Because these are live organisms, there is a theoretical risk of infection in people with very weak immune systems—especially those in critical care settings—though such cases are extremely rare. Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, stomach discomfort, or loose stool can occur when you first start probiotics, but these are uncommon.

One clinical trial reported a rash and itching in a small number of participants, though it's unclear whether the probiotics or something else caused it.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 2 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Bifidum.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antibiotic drugs, separate your doses from this probiotic by a few hours—antibiotics can kill off the live organisms before they work. The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you have IBS or are dealing with antibiotic-related diarrhea, this probiotic is worth a conversation with your pharmacist. Just don't take it at the same time as an antibiotic—space them out a few hours.

If you have a weakened immune system or are in critical care, check with your doctor first. Most people tolerate probiotics well.

Advanced Probiotic by Havasu Nutrition: Common Questions

Does Advanced Probiotic by Havasu Nutrition interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Advanced Probiotic has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Advanced Probiotic contains 7 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this probiotic while I'm on antibiotics?
Not at the same time. Antibiotics kill the live bacteria in probiotics, so they won't be as effective if you take them together. Ask your pharmacist how many hours apart to space them—often 2-4 hours is enough to let each one do its job.
Will this help my IBS?
Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum in this product are possibly effective for IBS based on the evidence we hold, but results vary from person to person. Give it a few weeks and see how you feel; if you're not noticing a change, talk to your doctor.
Are there any side effects I should expect?
When you first start probiotics, you might notice mild bloating, gas, or loose stool—these are temporary and uncommon. There's a small risk of rash or itching, though that's rare. If symptoms don't settle in a week or two, stop and talk to your pharmacist.
Is this safe if I have a weak immune system?
The facts advise caution for people with weakened immune systems. Check with your doctor before starting, since live probiotics carry a theoretical (though very rare) risk of infection in that situation.
What's inulin doing in here?
Inulin is a prebiotic—a type of fiber that feeds the good bacteria in the probiotic, helping them thrive and do their job better.
Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Both of the main ingredients—Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum—are rated as possibly safe in pregnancy. The data don't tell us enough about the other ingredients or breastfeeding to say either way, so talk with your doctor or midwife before you start.
