Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Terminalia's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Heart health and circulation support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Angina, Coronary heart disease (CHD), Heart failure, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Cardiovascular function — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Terminalia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Angina (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Terminalia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Coronary heart disease (CHD), Heart failure, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension.

The evidence we hold for arjuna bark extract rates as insufficient to establish how well it works. The data available doesn't support a clear claim that it helps with obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or angina.

That doesn't mean it's ineffective — it means the research isn't solid enough yet for us to vouch for it.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Arjuna has been generally well tolerated in short-term studies, though long-term safety data and quality vary depending on the product. There isn't enough safety information to use arjuna during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — the safety data advises against it in both cases.

If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this supplement.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Terminalia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 934 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Arjuna Alcohol Free, double-check these medication types with your pharmacist: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (increased bleeding risk), diabetes medications (heightened risk of low blood sugar), and any drugs processed through CYP2D6, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 liver pathways (arjuna may raise their blood levels). Also flag chlorzoxazone (muscle relaxant) and omeprazole (heartburn medication) if you're on either.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.

Arjuna Alcohol Free may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional heart and circulation support — but only if you're not on blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or medications metabolized by the liver enzymes this extract affects. Anyone on regular prescription medication should run their exact drugs through the interaction checker on this page before starting.

Arjuna Alcohol Free by Hawaii Pharm: Common Questions

Does Arjuna Alcohol Free by Hawaii Pharm interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Arjuna Alcohol Free has a known interaction with 933 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Arjuna Alcohol Free contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — there isn't enough safety information, and the safety data advises against arjuna during both pregnancy and breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this is right for you.
What is arjuna bark, and what is it supposed to do?
Arjuna bark is a traditional botanical used to support heart and circulation health. The evidence we hold doesn't establish how well it works for obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or angina.
How long has arjuna been studied for safety?
Short-term studies show it's generally well tolerated, but we don't have strong long-term safety data. Quality also varies between products.
Why does this product interact with so many medications?
Arjuna slows how your liver breaks down a large group of common drugs — anything processed through your CYP2D6, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 enzymes. That's hundreds of medications across many classes. It also has blood-thinning properties and may lower blood sugar.
What's in this besides the arjuna extract?
Just glycerin and water — those are inactive ingredients that help deliver the arjuna bark extract in liquid form.
