What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), at 500 micrograms per lozenge. B12 is an essential vitamin your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis — and it's absorbed directly through the mouth when you let the lozenge dissolve under your tongue.
The lozenge also contains several inactive ingredients (mannitol, cellulose, stearic acid, beet juice color, crospovidone, natural cherry flavor, sucralose, and magnesium stearate) that give it shape, sweetness, and stability.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic condition affecting B12 absorption). It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence is less robust for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), where it's rated possibly effective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally very well tolerated by mouth, with no established upper limit — your body excretes excess B12 in your urine, so overdose isn't a concern. Allergic reactions (rash, itching, hives) are rare but possible; in isolated cases, people with cobalt allergies have reacted to oral B12.
Serious side effects from correction of certain anemias with B12 (severe low potassium) are extremely rare. B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts, and your doctor or midwife may actually recommend it during these times.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, check with your pharmacist before starting — metformin can lower your B12 levels, and you'll want to monitor that. No other major medication interactions are documented for the ingredient we checked.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward B12 supplement for anyone who's deficient or at risk (especially if you take metformin, follow a vegan diet, or have absorption problems). If you're on metformin, just let your pharmacist know so they can keep an eye on your B12 levels.
If you have a history of cobalt allergy, mention that too. Otherwise, it's a safe, effective way to get this essential vitamin.
