HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Beta Sitosterol Complex 667 mg by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Wonder Laboratories' Beta Sitosterol Complex contains 7 ingredient categories, centered on plant sterols — compounds found naturally in plant oils and seeds that support heart and prostate health. The active ingredients include citrus pectin (a soluble fiber from citrus fruit), beta-sitosterol (the primary plant sterol), and several related sterols: stigmasterol, campesterol, brassicasterol, stigmastanol, and ergostanol.
The inactive ingredients are calcium carbonate, vegetable cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silica — standard binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Beta-sitosterol itself is likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and possibly effective for familial hypercholesterolemia (inherited high cholesterol) and coronary heart disease. Citrus pectin is possibly effective for high cholesterol.
The evidence for this product's use in prediabetes or after radiation exposure is insufficient — we don't have enough data to know whether it works for those conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-sitosterol is generally well tolerated in the short term by most adults, though you should check with a healthcare provider before starting. Common side effects from either ingredient include constipation, diarrhea, gas, indigestion, and nausea.
Rarely, pectin can cause allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, in sensitive people; occupational inhalation of pectin dust can trigger asthma. Beta-sitosterol has been linked to worsening acne, and one case report suggests a possible link to acute pancreatitis, though this is very rare.
For pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data for beta-sitosterol, so the data advises against supplemental use. Pectin from food is likely safe in pregnancy, but concentrated supplement amounts haven't been well studied — talk with your doctor for personalized guidance.
Similarly, breastfeeding safety for beta-sitosterol isn't established, and concentrated pectin supplements haven't been well studied while nursing — your doctor or pharmacist can advise based on your situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you use lovastatin (Mevacor), tetracycline antibiotics (such as doxycycline or minocycline), or digoxin (Lanoxin). These Moderate-severity interactions could reduce how well those medications work.
Altogether, these interactions span 23 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with high cholesterol and enlarged prostate, but it interacts with a few important medications — especially lovastatin, tetracycline antibiotics, and digoxin — so you'll want to clear it with your own doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're on any of those. It's generally well tolerated, though gastrointestinal side effects like gas and diarrhea are common.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety isn't fully established, so discuss it with your healthcare provider if you're expecting or nursing.

Beta Sitosterol Complex 667 mg by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Beta Sitosterol Complex 667 mg by Wonder Laboratories contains ingredients with documented interactions affecting certain medications.
The most serious concern is with lovastatin (Mevacor), a cholesterol medication — citrus pectin in this product may reduce how your body absorbs lovastatin, potentially weakening its cholesterol-lowering effect.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Citrus pectin can also interact with tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline or minocycline) and digoxin (Lanoxin, a heart medication), both Moderate severity. With tetracycline, pectin may lower the antibiotic's absorption by roughly a third.
With digoxin, the interaction appears more pronounced — studies suggest absorption could drop by about 60%. In both cases, the drug's effectiveness may decrease.
Stigmasterol, campesterol, brassicasterol, stigmastanol, and ergostanol — several other components of this product — we could not check for interactions because we hold no data on them. Beta-sitosterol itself, the main active ingredient, shows no documented interactions.
Although these are the documented interactions we have, there's always a chance unmapped interactions exist. Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact drugs, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement if you're on any of these medications.

For each ingredient in Beta Sitosterol Complex 667 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Citrus Pectin
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of digoxin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking digoxin with a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of digoxin by about 62%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, or the combination.
Lovastatin (Mevacor)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of lovastatin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Case reports suggest that concomitant use of pectin and lovastatin might reduce the cholesterol-lowering effect of lovastatin, possibly due to reduced intestinal absorption of lovastatin.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, potentially decreasing their effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking tetracycline with bismuth subsalicylate in a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of tetracycline by about 34%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, bismuth subsalicylate, or the combination.
