What’s inside
Full disclosure
Blueberry Leaf Extract contains one active ingredient: blueberry extract at 60 mg per softgel capsule. The extract is delivered in a softgel capsule made with gelatin, soybean oil, vegetable glycerin, soy lecithin, beeswax, caramel, and purified water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for blueberry extract's effectiveness is mixed. For hypertension (high blood pressure), it's rated possibly ineffective.
For age-related cognitive decline, anxiety, athletic performance, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and cardiovascular disease, the evidence is insufficient to rate — meaning we don't yet have reliable data either way on how well it works for those purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Blueberries as food are generally well tolerated and widely eaten. When taken as an oral supplement, blueberry is also generally well tolerated, though freeze-dried blueberries in particular have been linked to constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting; in one trial, a quarter of participants taking a high dose stopped within the first week due to stomach complaints.
For pregnancy, the product facts rate blueberry extract as likely safe, though concentrated supplements have not been well studied in pregnancy — so if you're pregnant, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist. For breastfeeding, the safety of high-dose extracts is unknown; eating blueberries as food is fine, but concentrated supplements warrant a conversation with your healthcare provider.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on antidiabetes drugs (minor interaction risk of low blood sugar), buspiron or other anti-anxiety medications (minor risk of increased blood levels), or flurbiprofen or related nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (minor risk of increased levels). Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Blueberry Leaf Extract may be worth considering if you're interested in general antioxidant support, though evidence for specific health claims is limited or lacking. If you take blood sugar medications or anti-anxiety drugs like buspiron, or take flurbiprofen for pain, you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this, since the extract could theoretically raise levels of those medications in your blood.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should confirm with their doctor or pharmacist whether this extract is right for them.

Blueberry Leaf Extract 60 mg by Botanic Choice Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Blueberry Leaf Extract by Botanic Choice has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern is antidiabetes drugs — blueberry extract may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with them, since animal and lab research suggests the extract can lower blood glucose levels.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Two other Minor interactions are on file. Blueberry juice may increase blood levels of flurbiprofen (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory), and also of buspiron (an anxiety medication), through inhibition of liver enzymes that normally clear these drugs.
However, human studies of blueberry juice at moderate doses showed limited effect.
Although we have limited data on high-dose blueberry extracts specifically in people, these documented interactions span 88 individual medications across the affected categories. Before you start this product, use the interaction checker below to see whether any of your exact medications are listed — particularly if you take blood sugar or anxiety medications.

Blueberry extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, blueberries or blueberry leaf extracts might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that blueberry and/or blueberry leaf extracts can lower blood glucose levels.
Buspirone (Buspar)
Theoretically, blueberry juice might increase blood levels of buspirone.
In vitro research shows that blueberry juice can inhibit the metabolism of buspirone, possibly by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) enzymes. However, pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that drinking 300 mL of blueberry juice 30 minutes before taking buspirone hydrochloride 10 mg does not significantly affect the concentration or clearance of buspirone.
Flurbiprofen (Ansaid, Others)
Theoretically, blueberry juice might increase blood levels of flurbiprofen.
In vitro research shows that blueberry juice can inhibit the metabolism of flurbiprofen, possibly by inhibiting cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) enzymes. However, pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that drinking 300 mL of blueberry juice 30 minutes before taking flurbiprofen 100 mg does not significantly affect the concentration or clearance of flurbiprofen.
