HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Broccoli Sprout by Health Ranger Select
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains four ingredients: broccoli powder, glucosinolates, sulforaphane, and glucoraphanin. Broccoli powder is the whole-food concentrate; the other three are phytonutrients naturally present in broccoli sprouts.
The capsule itself is made with hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, an inert filler.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Broccoli powder is possibly effective for colorectal cancer prevention based on available evidence. For bladder, breast, and gastric cancers, as well as fibromyalgia, the evidence isn't established enough for us to rate it.
Sulforaphane is possibly effective for prostate cancer but appears ineffective for Helicobacter pylori infection; evidence for its use in allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other cancers is currently insufficient.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Broccoli as a food is safe for most people, but concentrated supplements like this one are less well studied long-term. The product may cause loose stools, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or cramping, particularly at higher doses.
Sulforaphane can cause bowel discomfort, heartburn, stomach upset, vomiting, and headache; insomnia and irritability have been reported in trials. Rare cases of seizure have been reported in males with autism taking sulforaphane.
Both ingredients are rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation based on available data, though concentrated supplement safety in these situations is not fully established — talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check these medication types with your pharmacist before starting: CYP2A6 substrates (the most significant concern), CYP1A2 substrates, CYP3A4 substrates, and CYP2E1 substrates. These are enzyme-system categories rather than single drugs, which is why the total affected count is high.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take any prescription or over-the-counter medications metabolized by your liver — especially blood thinners, certain pain relievers, antidepressants, or birth control — check with your pharmacist first. The concentrated sulforaphane and broccoli compounds in this product can speed up or slow down how your body processes drugs.
It may help with colorectal cancer prevention, but evidence for other conditions is limited.

Broccoli Sprout by Health Ranger Select Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Broccoli Sprout by Health Ranger Select contains two ingredients with documented interactions: broccoli powder and sulforaphane.
The most serious concern involves how broccoli affects your liver's ability to metabolize certain medications through the CYP2A6 pathway — research shows it can increase that enzyme's activity by 135% to 550%, which means drugs processed this way could be cleared from your body much faster and lose their punch.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Broccoli powder also moderately affects CYP1A2 substrates (medications metabolized by a different liver enzyme); human studies show 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6–12 days can boost that enzyme activity by 10% to 200%. Sulforaphane, a compound found in broccoli sprouts, moderately affects three other drug-processing pathways: it may increase levels of CYP3A4 and CYP2E1 substrates (based on lab and animal data, though not yet confirmed in people), and it may also alter CYP1A2 substrates in competing ways — inhibiting the enzyme in some studies while its precursor glucoraphanin appears to boost it.
We could not check two ingredients: glucosinolates and glucoraphanin itself, because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 713 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Broccoli Sprout with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sulforaphane
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro evidence shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP2E1 enzymes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Broccoli, Powder
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates
Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2A6.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of broccoli daily for 6 days increases CYP2A6 activity by 135% to 550%. Induction of CYP2A6 activity is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
