What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: certified organic chlorella, a freshwater algae. Chlorella is sometimes used as a nutritional supplement, though the evidence for most claimed benefits is limited or not yet established in the data we hold.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The facts show chlorella is possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency. For brain tumor, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), depression, and fatigue, the evidence isn't established enough to rate it one way or the other — we simply don't have reliable data yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chlorella is generally well tolerated short term, but product quality and purity vary widely across brands, so choose carefully. The most common side effects are allergic reactions, abdominal cramping, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, gas, fatigue, and photosensitivity — many of these are mild and transient, especially during the first two weeks.
Rare but serious reactions include anaphylaxis. The safety data for long-term use isn't established, so it's wise to avoid it unless your doctor approves.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you're on warfarin or any other blood thinner — chlorella's vitamin K content may reduce how well it works. Also flag any medications that make your skin more sun-sensitive, since chlorella can add to that effect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Chlorella might be worth considering if you're pregnant and have iron deficiency, but the evidence for other uses isn't solid yet. If you take warfarin or any photosensitizing medication, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — chlorella can interfere with how these work.
Talk it over with your own healthcare provider to see whether it's right for you.

Organic Clean Chlorella SL by Health Ranger Select Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Organic Clean Chlorella SL by Health Ranger Select contains one active ingredient — chlorella — that interacts with medications.
The most serious concern is with warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner: chlorella is rich in vitamin K, which can counteract warfarin's effects and make it less effective at preventing clots. There's at least one case report of this happening.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chlorella may also have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight). Chlorella itself can cause photosensitization in some people — case reports describe swelling and red or purple rashes on sun-exposed skin after ingestion.
Taking it alongside a photosensitizing medication could compound that risk.
Altogether, these interactions span 337 individual medications. Before you start this product, run your exact medications — especially any blood thinners or drugs your doctor said make you sun-sensitive — through the interaction checker below.

Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, chlorella might reduce the clinical effects of warfarin.
Chlorella contains significant amounts of vitamin K. There is at least one case report of warfarin therapy becoming sub-therapeutic after initiation of chlorella supplements.
