Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This supplement contains one active ingredient: 450 mg of burdock root per capsule. Burdock is a plant root with a long history of use in traditional medicine.

The capsule itself is filled with gelatin, white rice flour, silica, and magnesium stearate — inactive ingredients that serve as the capsule shell and help bind the powder.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Burdock product and its label doesn't state a use — see Burdock's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for burdock as a treatment isn't established in our data. It's been tested for acne, aging skin, breast cancer, common cold, and eczema, but all of these have insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it actually works.

Burdock has been used as a food and in traditional herbal preparations for a long time, but the research on whether it does what people claim is still lacking.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Burdock is generally well tolerated when you eat it as a food, and it's likely safe for short-term use in healthy adults — though human safety data are limited overall. The most common side effects are rare and usually mild.

Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported in isolated cases. Contact dermatitis (an itchy rash) has occurred after prolonged use of burdock oil or plasters, sometimes appearing up to a week after first applying them.

One case of liver injury was reported in someone taking a multi-ingredient herbal tea containing burdock, though it's unclear whether burdock alone was responsible. Don't take burdock in medicinal amounts during pregnancy — there isn't enough safety data and it may affect the uterus.

The same goes for breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Burdock.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 122 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you start burdock, check your medications against the tool on this page — especially if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel). Burdock may increase your bleeding risk with these medicines.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Burdock root is a single-ingredient supplement with a long history of traditional use and a good tolerability profile in most people — but the science showing it works for any particular condition just isn't there yet. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take burdock if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

We don't have enough reliable evidence to say. It's been tested for both, but the research isn't conclusive either way.
What are the side effects?
