HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Catnip Alcohol Free by Hawaii Pharm
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Catnip Alcohol Free contains one active ingredient: catnip flower, leaf extract in dry form. It's a liquid preparation made with glycerin and water — no alcohol, despite the name suggesting otherwise.
The extract is the concentrated plant material stripped of its liquid base and then reconstituted in the glycerin-water blend.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for catnip's effectiveness is insufficient for the conditions listed in our data — amenorrhea (absence of menstrual periods), anxiety, tension headache, upper respiratory tract infection, indigestion, and gas. The research on these uses hasn't yet established whether it actually works, so we can't say it will or won't help you with any of them.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Catnip is generally well tolerated when used in tea-like amounts, though human safety data are limited. The most common side effects from normal use are headache, malaise (general feeling of being unwell), and vomiting.
Taking too much can cause stomachache and vomiting; in one case, a toddler became very drowsy after ingesting catnip tea and tea bag material. You should avoid this product if you're pregnant — catnip may stimulate the uterus and safety in pregnancy is not established.
There also isn't enough safety information to recommend it for breastfeeding, so talk with your own doctor or pharmacist before using it during that time.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Catnip Alcohol Free, double-check with your own doctor or pharmacist if you take CNS depressants — sedatives, sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, or opioids — because catnip may increase drowsiness. You should also confirm any use of lithium, since catnip may affect how your body handles it and your dose might need to change.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Catnip Alcohol Free may be worth considering if you're looking for a traditional herbal remedy, but the evidence doesn't yet show it works for specific conditions. If you take anything that makes you drowsy or you use lithium, you need to check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interactions are real and potentially significant.

Catnip Alcohol Free by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Catnip Alcohol Free by Hawaii Pharm interacts with medications in two important categories.
The most serious concern is with CNS depressants (drugs that slow your nervous system, like sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, and opioids) — catnip's sedative properties may add to their effect, causing extra drowsiness or other side effects. This is a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Catnip may also interact with lithium, a mood-stabilizing medication used for bipolar disorder. Catnip is thought to have diuretic properties (it makes you urinate more), which might reduce how your body clears lithium from your system and cause levels to build up.
This is also Moderate severity, and your lithium dose might need adjustment.
Altogether, these interactions span 248 individual medications. Before you start this product, run your exact medications — especially any that make you drowsy or lithium — through the interaction checker below with help from your own doctor or pharmacist.
