What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (3 mL) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product contains one active ingredient: false unicorn root (Chamaelirium luteum), traditionally used in herbal medicine. The liquid is made with spring water and alcohol as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient False Unicorn product and its label doesn't state a use — see False Unicorn's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

We hold no effectiveness data for false unicorn in our records, so we cannot tell you whether it works for any particular purpose.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

False unicorn root is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth at normal doses. However, safety data in humans is limited.

Large doses have been reported to cause nausea and vomiting and stomach upset. False unicorn should be avoided in pregnancy — traditional use to affect the uterus combined with limited safety data makes it likely unsafe.

There isn't enough safety information for breastfeeding either, so it's best avoided while nursing. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Chamaelirium Lut. False Unicorn by Wise Woman Herbals: Common Questions

Does Chamaelirium Lut. False Unicorn by Wise Woman Herbals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Chamaelirium Lut. False Unicorn has a known interaction with 740 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Chamaelirium Lut. False Unicorn contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is false unicorn used for?
False unicorn is an herb with a traditional history in herbal medicine, but we don't hold effectiveness data for any specific condition, so we can't tell you what the current evidence shows it works for.
Is it safe to take if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. False unicorn is rated likely unsafe in pregnancy because of its traditional use to affect the uterus and the lack of safety data. It should also be avoided while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're in either situation.
What are the side effects?
At normal doses, false unicorn is generally well tolerated. Large doses have been reported to cause nausea, vomiting, and stomach upset, though these reports are not from formal clinical trials.
Why does this product interact with so many medications?
False unicorn can slow down two liver enzymes (CYP2D6 and CYP3A4) that break down many different drugs. When these enzymes work slower, the drugs can build up in your body. That's why it affects a broad range of medications across different drug classes.
Does it contain any fillers or binders?
This is a liquid extract, so it contains spring water and alcohol as the base — no capsule fillers or binders.
