Abemaciclib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Your body clears abemaciclib (Verzenio) mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies, False Unicorn appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happens in people, abemaciclib could clear more slowly and build up to higher levels than intended. Since abemaciclib isn't a prodrug (it's already active), higher levels mean a stronger effect and a greater chance of side effects like diarrhea, low blood counts, fatigue, nausea, and (rarely) liver or clotting problems.

I want to be honest: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube data, not proven in humans. But abemaciclib is a serious cancer medicine, so I wouldn't gamble. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding False Unicorn.

What Is Abemaciclib Used For?

Brand name: Verzenio

Verzenio (abemaciclib) is used to treat HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adults. For early breast cancer at high risk of recurrence, Verzenio is taken alongside endocrine therapy (tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) after surgery to help prevent the cancer from coming back.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Verzenio can be used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as a first hormonal treatment, in combination with fulvestrant after the cancer has progressed on endocrine therapy, or alone after prior endocrine therapy and chemotherapy have stopped working.
