What’s inside
Full disclosure
Corvalene Ribose is a single-ingredient powder: D-ribose, a naturally occurring sugar your cells use to make energy. That's it — no fillers or other active ingredients.
Does it work?
No specific claim
The evidence for D-ribose is limited. For athletic performance and McArdle disease (a rare muscle disorder), it's rated possibly ineffective.
For restless legs syndrome, muscle soreness, congestive heart failure, and recovery after bypass surgery, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering ribose for one of these reasons, talk with your doctor about whether the evidence supports a trial.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Ribose is generally well tolerated for up to a month. The most common side effects from taking it by mouth are diarrhea, stomach discomfort, headache, nausea, and — importantly — low blood sugar.
A few people have reported anxiety, lightheadedness, or increased appetite; lowering the dose resolved these in some cases. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety information. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using ribose if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your insulin and any blood-sugar-lowering medications (antidiabetes drugs) before taking this product. Both can be affected with Moderate severity — ribose may increase the risk of dangerously low blood sugar when combined with them.
Use the medication checker below to review your prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula marketed for general wellness rather than one specific gradeable purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Ribose is a supplement some people take hoping to boost energy or athletic performance, but evidence for those uses is weak or absent. The main caution is low blood sugar — especially if you take insulin or diabetes medication.
If that's you, check your exact drugs before starting. Otherwise, chat with your pharmacist about whether ribose makes sense for what you're after.

D-Ribose monograph & interactionsCorvalene Ribose by Douglas Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Corvalene Ribose by Douglas Laboratories contains D-ribose, which has documented interactions with two major medication categories.
The most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetes drugs — ribose can lower your blood sugar (glucose), and combining it with these medications theoretically increases your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). In clinical studies, ribose decreased blood sugar levels in a dose-dependent way and modestly raised insulin levels when taken by mouth.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both interactions carry Moderate severity. If you take insulin or any blood-sugar-lowering medication, you'll want to check your specific drugs with the tool below before starting ribose.
Altogether, these interactions span 85 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions — even if you don't take diabetes or insulin medication, it's worth the 30 seconds.
