D-Ribose Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking D-Ribose against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: D-ribose, a five-carbon sugar your body makes naturally and uses to produce energy in your cells. It's the sole component in this powder formula; there are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for D-ribose is mixed and limited. For athletic performance and McArdle disease (a rare muscle disorder), it's rated possibly ineffective.
For restless legs syndrome, muscle soreness, congestive heart failure, and recovery after heart bypass surgery, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
D-ribose is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth for up to a month. The most common side effects are diarrhea, stomach discomfort, headache, nausea, and low blood sugar.
A few people report feeling anxious, lightheaded, or having increased appetite — but lowering the dose has resolved these symptoms in studies. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied.
There isn't enough safety information to recommend it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs or insulin. Both carry a moderate risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with ribose.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
D-ribose is best considered if you're interested in energy support and don't take diabetes or insulin medications. If you do take those drugs, clear it with your doctor or pharmacist first — the risk of low blood sugar is real.
Start with a lower dose to see how your stomach handles it, and watch for dizziness or anxiety.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
D-Ribose by Absorb Health can interact with medications for blood sugar control.
The main concern is with antidiabetes drugs and insulin — ribose may lower blood sugar further, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). This effect is moderate in severity: clinical studies show ribose decreases glucose levels in a dose-dependent way and can increase insulin levels.
