HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Reishi Mushroom 400 mg by Absorb Health
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), 400 mg per capsule. Reishi is a fungus traditionally used in Asian medicine; the capsule itself is filled with inactive ingredients — gelatin and silica — which serve as the capsule shell and flow agent.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for reishi mushroom's effectiveness is mixed and depends on the condition. For high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), it's rated possibly ineffective based on the data we hold.
For altitude sickness, Alzheimer's disease, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it one way or the other. If you're considering reishi for any of these uses, talk with your doctor about whether the current evidence supports it for your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi mushroom is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth in the short term, though long-term safety hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
Some people also report sore throat or runny nose, and rarely, insomnia or headache. A small number of people may have a respiratory allergy to reishi spores.
There isn't enough safety data to recommend reishi during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any blood pressure medications, blood thinners (like warfarin or aspirin), or diabetes drugs — all three have Moderate interactions with reishi mushroom. These interactions can change how well your medications work or increase the risk of side effects like low blood pressure or bleeding.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Reishi mushroom may appeal to you if you're interested in traditional herbal support, but the evidence for most conditions is limited or mixed. If you take blood pressure, blood thinning, or diabetes medications, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interactions are real.
Long-term safety data is sparse, so ask your healthcare provider about how long it's reasonable to take this and whether it's right for your situation.

Reishi Mushroom 400 mg by Absorb Health Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Absorb Health's Reishi Mushroom 400 mg interacts with blood pressure medications, blood thinners, and diabetes drugs — all at Moderate severity.
The main concern is with blood pressure drugs: reishi mushroom can lower blood pressure on its own, so combining it with antihypertensive medications might push your pressure too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs) are a second concern. At higher doses — 3 grams daily and above — reishi mushroom may increase bleeding risk, which is especially important if you're on warfarin, aspirin, or similar medications.
This product delivers 400 mg per capsule, so you'd need to take multiple capsules daily to reach that threshold, but it's worth tracking.
Diabetes medications (like metformin or insulin) represent a third Moderate interaction. Animal research shows reishi mushroom lowers blood sugar, though human studies in type 2 diabetes haven't confirmed consistent effects on actual glucose levels.
Still, the additive effect is possible, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is a real risk if you're already on diabetes drugs.
Before you start this product, check your exact medications — especially any for blood pressure, blood thinning, or diabetes — with your doctor or pharmacist using the search tool on this page. Altogether, these interactions span 375 individual medications.

Reishi Mushroom
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
