The evidence for D-chiro inositol is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and metabolic syndrome, and possibly effective for reducing preterm labor risk.
However, the data shows it's possibly ineffective for anxiety, diabetic nerve pain (diabetic neuropathy), and depression. The strength of evidence varies by condition — talk with your doctor about whether this ingredient matches what you're hoping to address.

D-chiro inositol is generally well tolerated at typical doses. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are diarrhea, gas, and nausea — usually mild and digestive in nature.
In one study, when combined with omega-3 fatty acids, it was associated with reports of cold and allergy symptoms in children. For pregnancy, the safety data is incomplete; it's rated possibly safe, but use only under medical supervision.
