HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Digestive Probiotic Intestinal & Immune Health by CVS Pharmacy
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has 2 active ingredients: Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, both live-culture probiotics designed to support digestive and immune function. The inactive ingredients—cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide—are fillers and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The Lactobacillus acidophilus in this product is rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. It's rated Possibly Ineffective for atopic disease and there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
We don't have effectiveness data on file for Bifidobacterium animalis lactis on its own.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea can occur, but they're uncommon.
In rare cases, the live organisms have been associated with serious infections (bacteremia, sepsis, endocarditis) in vulnerable patients, though most of these cases involve bacteria that crossed from other parts of the body where they naturally live. Because data are limited and individual risk varies, check with your doctor before use.
For pregnancy, the data suggest it's Possibly Safe, but there's insufficient information about use during lactation—talk with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, let your healthcare provider or pharmacist know—they should be spaced several hours apart from this probiotic to avoid reducing its effectiveness. We could not check Bifidobacterium animalis lactis for interactions; use the medication search tool on this page to confirm your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with IBS, traveler's diarrhea after antibiotics, and certain infections, though the evidence is mixed. If you're on antibiotics, space them apart from this product to preserve its effectiveness.
Before starting, especially if you're pregnant, immunocompromised, or taking any medications, run it by your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it's right for you.

Digestive Probiotic Intestinal & Immune Health by CVS Pharmacy Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report

The live organisms in this probiotic may be killed by antibiotics taken at the same time, which could reduce how well the probiotic works for you.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The interaction is straightforward: antibiotics are designed to kill bacteria, and since this product contains live bacterial cultures, taking them together means the antibiotic may eliminate the beneficial organisms before they can colonize your gut. If you're on antibiotics, spacing out when you take them and this probiotic can help preserve the probiotic's effectiveness.
