Does it work?
Strong evidence
Lactase in this product is effective for lactose intolerance, helping people digest milk and dairy. Bacillus subtilis is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea — the kind that sometimes happens when antibiotics wipe out your good gut bacteria.
For the other conditions these strains are studied for — constipation, colic, athletic performance, eczema, and diabetes — the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Protease and lactase are generally well tolerated in adults, though protease can rarely cause digestive upset or allergic reactions; occupational exposure to airborne protease has occasionally triggered asthma or rhinitis. Bacillus subtilis is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though one trial participant reported a headache.
Rare cases of diarrhea have been reported with B. subtilis, and there are historical case reports of serious infection (bacteremia and meningitis) linked to very high consumption of natto in people with serious underlying health conditions. For pregnancy: protease safety isn't established — avoid it unless your doctor prescribes it.
Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy, though check with your doctor first. Bacillus subtilis hasn't enough safety data in pregnancy — talk with your doctor.
For breastfeeding: protease and B. subtilis have limited data — ask your doctor or pharmacist first. Lactase acts only in your gut, but ask before regular use.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bacillus subtilis with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. subtilis.
Since B. subtilis preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. subtilis preparations by at least 2 hours.
