L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy people and children. L. bulgaricus is also generally well tolerated in healthy individuals.

All three carry caution flags: people with weakened immune systems should check with their doctor first. Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea — have been reported with probiotic combinations.
