HelloPharmacist Scorecard of DMAE Dimethylaminoethanol 75 by LifeLink
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol), also known as deanol. The other ingredients are inactive fillers and binders — dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and croscarmelose sodium — which help form and preserve the tablet.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on DMAE is pretty limited. For Alzheimer disease, it's rated likely ineffective, meaning it doesn't appear to help.
For tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements), the evidence also suggests it's likely ineffective. For aging skin, athletic performance, and ADHD, there simply isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether it works or not.
If you're thinking about DMAE for one of these reasons, it's worth talking through the evidence with your doctor.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
DMAE is generally well tolerated by some adults, but the safety evidence is limited and side effects do occur. The most common ones are abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting.
Less commonly, people have reported headache, insomnia, confusion, constipation, rash, and mood changes. At higher doses — especially above 1,000 mg daily — mood changes including depression and hypomania have been reported, and in people with schizophrenia, symptoms may worsen.
Because there isn't enough safety data during pregnancy, the facts advise against it. Safety during breastfeeding is also unknown, so it's best to avoid it then.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding DMAE if you take any anticholinergic drugs — medications that block acetylcholine activity — or cholinergic drugs that increase it. Both types may be affected by DMAE's effect on acetylcholine levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
DMAE isn't well established for any condition — the strongest evidence suggests it doesn't work for Alzheimer disease or tardive dyskinesia, and for other uses like ADHD or athletic performance, we simply don't have enough data. If you're on anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

DMAE Dimethylaminoethanol 75 by LifeLink Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
DMAE Dimethylaminoethanol 75 by LifeLink contains one active ingredient — DMAE (also called deanol) — that does interact with certain medications.
The main concern is with anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine), where DMAE may theoretically reduce their effectiveness. Because DMAE is thought to raise acetylcholine levels, it works against how these drugs are supposed to function.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
DMAE also has minor interactions with cholinergic drugs (medications that increase acetylcholine activity). Since DMAE itself boosts acetylcholine, combining it with these drugs might increase both their intended effects and their unwanted side effects.
Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications. Before you start DMAE, check your exact prescriptions — especially any anticholinergic or cholinergic medications — with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure they won't be affected.
