Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Triavil combines amitriptyline (an antidepressant) with perphenazine (an antipsychotic), and both have anticholinergic activity, meaning they partly work by quieting the brain chemical acetylcholine. Deanol (DMAE) is thought to nudge acetylcholine levels up. So in theory, deanol could work against these medicines and make them a little less effective.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs work, not on real patient reports, and it's rated minor and unlikely. If anything, you might notice the mood or calming benefit feeling weaker. Before adding deanol, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you're doing.

Beer and wine both carry major ratings here, and 78 of the 311 ingredients on file deepen the drowsiness this antidepressant and antipsychotic combination already causes, sometimes to the point of slowed breathing.”
