Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
DNZ-2 contains one active ingredient: DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol), also known as deanol, at 250 mg per capsule. Deanol is a compound thought to increase acetylcholine, a brain chemical involved in memory and nerve function.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for deanol is limited. It's rated likely ineffective for Alzheimer's disease and tardive dyskinesia (a movement disorder).
For aging skin, ADHD, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence to know whether it works. If you're considering this for one of those uses, talk with your doctor about whether the evidence supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Deanol is generally well tolerated by some adults, but side effects have been reported — most commonly abdominal cramps, pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. At higher doses (above 1000 mg daily), it's been linked to mood changes including depression and hypomania, and in people with schizophrenia, it may worsen symptoms.
The product should be avoided during pregnancy because there isn't enough safety data, and should not be used while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on anticholinergic drugs (such as medications for overactive bladder or certain Parkinson's symptoms) or cholinergic drugs (such as some treatments for myasthenia gravis or glaucoma). These are the medication types with documented interactions in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
DNZ-2 is a single-ingredient supplement with limited evidence for its claimed uses and interactions with common medications. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic drugs, or have a history of mood disorders or schizophrenia, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.
Even if you don't take those drugs, discuss it with your own healthcare provider to decide whether it's right for you.

DNZ-2 250 mg by Bio-Tech Pharmacal Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
DNZ-2 by Bio-Tech Pharmacal contains DMAE (deanol), which has documented interactions with anticholinergic and cholinergic drugs.
The most serious concern is with cholinergic drugs — deanol may strengthen their effects and side effects. Because deanol is thought to boost acetylcholine levels, it theoretically opposes anticholinergic medications (used for conditions like overactive bladder or Parkinson's) and may reduce how well they work.

Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications.
If you take any prescription medication — especially anything for bladder control, Parkinson's disease, or neurological conditions — run it through the checker on this page before you start.
