Drain Dampness Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Drain Dampness against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Drain Dampness by Health Concerns
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Drain Dampness contains five active ingredients: cinnamon extract, a proprietary herbal blend (whose components are listed separately), poria mushroom extract (listed twice under different names — Polyporus Sclerotium Extract and Poria sclerotium extract), Atractylodes rhizome extract, and Alisma Rhizome. The capsules also contain two inactive ingredients: hypromellose and rice bran, which are fillers and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence isn't established in the data we hold for any of the active ingredients in this product across their listed uses — which include diabetes, diarrhea, dementia, cancer, and others. All six conditions listed for cinnamon extract, all six for the poria extracts, and all six for atractylodes show insufficient reliable evidence to rate their effectiveness.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cinnamon extract is likely safe in food amounts, but supplement doses high in coumarin (a compound in cinnamon) may harm the liver over time, especially at high doses taken long-term. In clinical trials, a rash was reported in one person taking 1 gram daily, and in one case a person with a cinnamon allergy developed systemic contact dermatitis that cleared five days after stopping it.
High doses of coumarin from other sources have caused liver damage in humans that resolved when stopped. Atractylodes is often used traditionally but human safety data are limited — use cautiously and under guidance.
Reported side effects include allergic reactions, dry mouth, and nausea. The poria mushroom extracts are generally well tolerated in traditional use, though human data are sparse; allergic reactions including allergic rhinitis and asthma have been reported rarely.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take diabetes medications (blood sugar control), blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (clotting prevention), sedatives or other CNS depressants (sleep or anxiety medications), anticholinergic or cholinergic drugs (nerve-affecting medications), liver-damaging drugs, aromatase inhibitors (breast cancer drugs), or hexobarbital. These are the medication types with documented theoretical interactions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a traditional herbal formula with limited human safety and effectiveness data. If you take diabetes medications, blood thinners, sedatives, or any liver-affecting drugs, check your exact medication list with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.
The same applies if you're pregnant or breastfeeding — several ingredients aren't recommended in those situations.

Drain Dampness by Health Concerns Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Drain Dampness by Health Concerns contains five ingredients, three of which have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is with cinnamon extract and hepatotoxic drugs (liver-damaging medications) — large doses of cinnamon theoretically could add to that liver stress over time.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Cinnamon extract also interacts with diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs). It may lower blood sugar, so dose adjustments to your diabetes medication might be necessary.
Atractylodes rhizome extract has moderate interactions with blood thinners and blood clotting medications (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs), raising bleeding risk theoretically, and also with aromatase inhibitors (breast cancer drugs), hexobarbital (a sedative), and certain enzyme substrates that affect how your body processes drugs. The poria mushroom extracts — listed twice in this product — both interact moderately with sedatives (CNS depressants), anticholinergic drugs, and cholinergic drugs, though these effects haven't been proven in humans.
Alisma rhizome is an ingredient we couldn't check for interactions. Altogether, these interactions span 1,268 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Drain Dampness with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bai-Zhu Atractylodes rhizome extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that atractylenolides II and III, constituents of atractylodes, reduce platelet activation. So far, this has not been shown in humans.
Aromatase Inhibitors
Theoretically, atractylodes may have an additive effect when used with other aromatase inhibitors.
Laboratory research suggests that atractylodes and its constituents exhibit aromatase inhibitor effects.
Hexobarbital
Theoretically, taking atractylodes may prolong the therapeutic and adverse effects of hexobarbital.
In animals, atractylodes has been shown to prolong the effects of hexobarbital. These effects have not been shown in humans.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, atractylodes might decrease the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to induce CYP1A2 activity. This effect has not been shown in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.
Cinnamon extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
Polyporus Sclerotium Extract
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, poria mushroom might decrease the clinical effects of anticholinergic drugs.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, poria mushroom might have additive effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking poria mushroom extract may enhance the therapeutic and adverse effects of sedatives.
Animal research shows that poria mushroom extract has sedative properties. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
