Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This liquid contains one active ingredient: elderberry glycerite liquid extract. Glycerin and strawberry flavor make up the rest of the product — these are inactive ingredients that help with taste and preservation, not therapeutic action.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for elderberry isn't established yet for the uses studied — hay fever, heart disease, chronic fatigue, COPD, memory, and respiratory infections all carry insufficient evidence ratings in the data we hold. That doesn't mean elderberry doesn't work for these; it means the research so far hasn't been strong enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Properly prepared elderberry from ripe fruit is generally well tolerated. The main risk comes from raw or unripe berries, seeds, leaves, and bark, which contain toxins that cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, dizziness, and numbness — cooking eliminates these toxins, and this product is a prepared extract so that shouldn't apply.
There's one case report of a woman who developed liver inflammation after taking elderberry for years alongside an autoimmune disease, though the link wasn't proven. Avoid elderberry supplements during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough safety data to know either way, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in those situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take immunosuppressants (drugs that weaken your immune system for transplant or autoimmune disease) or pazopanib (a cancer drug). These carry Moderate interaction risk with elderberry.
Because the full medication list spans a wide range of drug types, run your specific prescriptions through the search tool on this page to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
TerraVita Elderberry Strawberry Flavor works best for people not on immunosuppressants or pazopanib, and it should be checked against your exact medication list first. The evidence for what it may help with isn't strong yet, but the product itself is generally well tolerated when properly prepared.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or on any prescription medications — especially immune-suppressing drugs or cancer therapies — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Elderberry Strawberry Flavor by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Elderberry Strawberry Flavor can interact with certain medications through its elderberry content.
The most serious documented concern is with pazopanib (Votrient), a cancer drug — one case reported severe nausea, loose stools, and grade 3 liver injury when a patient took elderberry alongside it. Immunosuppressant drugs (medications that dampen your immune system) are also a Moderate concern; elderberry boosts immune activity, which may theoretically work against what these drugs are trying to do.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, you should know that we hold interaction data for only these two drug categories from this product's single ingredient. Altogether, these interactions span 121 individual medications.
Because the list is large and includes both cancer therapies and immune-suppressing drugs used for organ transplant, autoimmune disease, and other conditions, we'd strongly recommend checking your exact medications with the search tool on this page or talking it over with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
