The evidence for these probiotics is mixed. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and respiratory tract infections, but the data on other uses — like hay fever, anxiety, or Alzheimer's disease — isn't solid enough to rate.
Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus gasseri have insufficient evidence for most conditions we checked, including hay fever, diarrhea, asthma, and bacterial vaginosis. If you're considering this for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the evidence actually supports.
How safe is it?

These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy people. That said, caution is warranted if you have a weakened or compromised immune system — the safety data are limited in that group.
Bloating and flatulence can occur with probiotics in general, though they haven't been specifically reported with Bifidobacterium bifidum. Rare cases of gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, and one reported dry cough have been noted with the other strains.
Very rare, serious infections (bacteremia or sepsis) have occurred in critically ill or preterm infants, but these are uncommon. Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation, though data are limited — check with your doctor before using while breastfeeding.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Lactobacillus gasseri KS-13
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus gasseri with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. gasseri.
Lactobacillus gasseri preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. gasseri preparations by at least two hours.
